Series production and system building for embedded products

Fermium designs boards for the assembly line and builds complete systems from boards, mechanics and enclosures, so the hundredth unit is assembled and tested like the first.

What we do

From the tested prototype to the running production line

A prototype proves the idea. A product has to be assembled, tested and shipped hundreds of times without surprises, by your suppliers and your production team.

01

Design for series production

DFM review before every production release: panelisation, fiducials, component spacing and assembly data agreed with your PCB and assembly suppliers.

02

System building

Complete systems built up from boards, cabling, mechanics and enclosures, with assembly instructions your production team can follow.

03

CNC-machined and 3D-printed parts

Enclosures, brackets, fixtures and housings as CNC-machined or 3D-printed parts, designed to fit the board and the assembly process.

04

Cost reduction and obsolescence redesigns

Drop-in replacement selection, redesign for current components and consolidation of the bill of materials; external interfaces and form factor stay unchanged where the product requires it.

05

Component standardisation and second sources

A bill of materials with approved second sources for critical parts and components standardised across your products.

06

Coordination with your suppliers

Production data, DFM feedback and first-article inspection resolved directly with your PCB and assembly suppliers.

Process

From prototype to the first production batch

Every phase ends with a deliverable you can review: agreed production requirements, a DFM report, pilot units, released production data, a running line.

  1. 01

    Production requirements

Quantities, target cost, assembly partner, test depth and documentation requirements written down and agreed.

  2. 02

    DFM review

Stack-up, footprints, component spacing, panelisation and test points reviewed with the PCB and assembly suppliers.

  3. 03

    Pilot build

First units built with the production process, mechanics as machined or printed parts, deviations recorded and resolved.

  4. 04

    Release

Test system, assembly instructions, BOM with second sources and production data released for series production.

  5. 05

    Series production

Handover to manufacturing, first-article inspection and support for the first production batches.

Questions before a project

What engineering managers ask about series production

Do you manufacture the boards yourselves?

Production runs at your PCB and assembly suppliers. Fermium prepares the design and the production data, resolves DFM feedback with the suppliers and checks the first articles against the design.

Can you redesign a product for lower cost or after a component becomes obsolete?

Yes. Drop-in replacement selection, redesign for current components, cost reduction through component consolidation and alternative sourcing, and long-term availability planning. External interfaces and form factor stay unchanged where the product requires it.

Do you also build the mechanics and enclosures?

Yes. Enclosures, brackets, fixtures and housings are designed with the board and made as CNC-machined or 3D-printed parts, so they fit the assembly process from the first unit.

What does system building include?

Complete systems built from boards, CNC-machined or 3D-printed mechanics, cabling and enclosures, with the assembly instructions and the test system your production needs to build them in series.
